Week one PVE
Connections I have made
What: During these first weeks at Prairie View Elementary we started the great start conferences which is a new that format the district has adapted. This is a great time to make those initial connections with students. We also had a school wide assembly where all of the grade level teachers dressed up as different themes while the principal introduced us and made sure the students know that we are there to support them and that all of the teachers want the best for the students. During this week I also made sere to check in with my students everyday individually to see how they are feeling as it was most of their first time at school.
Why: these connections help to create a band of trust -understanding, and mutual respect between student and teacher.
Learned: Our students want to learn and by having earned their trust by making connections we can help them grow in their learning.
Impact: good connections help to set the bone for the school year and prepares students and teachers for a positive learning environment.

Those outfits are so fun and probably made the students so excited. Having a schoolwide pep rally is a great way for students to see each teacher's face and get to know what grade level they teach. You are absolutely correct that building trust is important to build connections. I also think that it is a great way to encourage students to want to come to school. If they feel like they matter individually within the classroom, they will be excited to come each day.
