Comfort Zones.

Topic: Comfort Zones - Where are you naturally drawn in your placement, where will you need to  be more purposeful? '

What:
In the classroom I am most drawn to building relationships with students. When our students ask for a hug I happily give them one and when they want to tell me about the work they've done I'll happily sit and listen. I need to be more purposeful about my timing when it comes to building connections when expectations should be followed in that moment. Instead of giving my student's hugs in the hallway when we are walking to specials, I should redirect it to a more appropriate time. As this will prevent us from being late to specials. I am also drawn to find my inner authority in a classroom to make myself and the students more comfortable as I teach. This is also something I want to keep focusing on as it is an ever-developing skill.

Why:
I hope to retime to this blog later on and see how I have worked to improve these skills to make my self a better teacher.

Learned:
I learned that I quickly became comfortable in my placement when it comes to teaching & building student connections. I also learned that I need to work on my time management when it comes to expectations.

  1. I'm glad you will revisit this to see how you are doing as this does affect the whole school when a teacher is not mindful of other teacher's schedules. I'm sure you were forgiven the first week with the little ones.

  2. This was a great reflection on how you are building relationships with students and when you can have these bonding experiences during school. I kind of also deal with the same thing in a sense, besides the hugging since I am with high schoolers. Students love getting to know new people and they sometimes get distracted on what they are actually supposed to be doing.

  3. It is hard being new in the building, especially in elementary- everyone wants a hug!
