Parent Communication and Connection

 During this placement my CT has been including me in all parent communication emails. He has asked my input and feedback about student performance when writing parent communication. I was also able to sit in on a disability suspected meeting with the team and a parent for our student who is hearing impaired. We have had parents stop by our classroom and I have been able to have quick conversations with them to build that connection. My CT has a facebook page that he posts pictures of the students, he has ask to post pictures of me with the students to reestablish the parent connection. I wrote positive feedback notes to all of the parents about their children to send home on my last day.

    This is awesome! Connecting with parents in a positive way is great for when you need to address something negative later. They already have knowledge of who you are, and they are less likely to associate you with negative events.

Connections I have made What: During these first weeks at Prairie View Elementary we started the great start conferences which is a new that format the district has adapted. This is a great time to make those initial connections with students. We also had a school wide assembly where all of the grade level teachers dressed up as different themes while the principal introduced us and made sure the students know that we are there to support them and that all of the teachers want the best for the students. During this week I also made sere to check in with my students everyday individually to see how they are feeling as it was most of their first time at school. Why: these connections help to create a band of trust -understanding, and mutual respect between student and teacher. 1. What inspired you to be a teacher? I was always the oldest of all of my cousins, so I always planned and guided what we did. So when my family told me I was made to be a teacher, I stuck with it. I dressed up as a teacher for our 3rd grade career day, and it just felt right! 2. What legacy do you hope to leave as an educator?  I hope to be a teacher that helps those who can't help themselves. I want to make sure my students will always remember something that I taught them, no matter how small it was. 3. What actions and mindset will be needed during the unique setting of the 2025 school year? A resilient mindset will be needed, as I am sure we will experience many challenges as we take this step into the professional world. Making sure that we take care of ourselves while we take care of our students is very important.

School preferences

As of right now I will only have 1 year to work in the States if my application gets approved. Because of the timing of our program end date I will not be able to complete a full contracted year as a teacher. Because of that I will look for any longterm sub or para jobs. I would love to work in a school that is not too big. I would really just be happy to work anywhere😂. I look forward to see what is out there for me and I am sure wherever I end up will be a learning experience for me!
