School Culture
At prairie view I experienced a very academic focused building and I worked in a team that relied on each other a lot. The building had a sense of respect from both the staff and students. I enjoyed working in this building as I was able to focus on running a smooth and efficient classroom.
At Westfield I experienced a culture that strives for whole student success. The staff focus on making sure real world experiences are incorporated into learning. My CT and her team do a lot more independent work. I liked being able to work in this school as I have been able to practice more creation when it comes to planning instruction.
I also have gotten to experience whole student success and I think that it has been vital for my learning experience. In my first placement, each grade level relied a lot on one another as well but there was also a sense of the whole school relying on and helping each other, which I really enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteBeing able to create more with planning for instruction is so helpful. I have been able to create more with any lessons with this placement then my last and it feels much more rewarding teaching those lessons you create rather ones that have been placed in front of you already.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have had both experiences and you are able to see the benefits of both schools. It would be nice to have a balance of each of the schools for you. As you find a school to fit your desires for what you are looking for in a school, you might need to ask questions about how the school operates in these areas. A place to have a supportive learning team yet the freedom to be creative and open to make some of your own decisions about the learning programs of your students. This seems to be a schjool where you would thrive.
